Swedish second-tier side Trelleborgs FF have signed Asante Kotoko forward Abdul Fatawu Safiu on a four-month loan with a permanent option.
Safiu arrived in the Scandinavian country for brief trials with giants Helsingborgs IF mid-July. Despite impressing, the Swedish club offered terms that were deemed not satisfactory by Kotoko.
Trelleborgs came into the fray and have snapped up the former Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps attacker to help their cause in the 2019 Supperettan.
“We continue to strengthen on the attack side. Now through 25-year-old forward Fatawu Safiu from Ghana,” Trelleborgs FF posted on their official website.
“The contract is valid for the 2019 season with an option for an additional two years.”
Fatawu Safiu leaves Kotoko just under one year since joining the Porcupine Warriors from Eleven Wonders FC in October 2018.
He netted thrice and assisted two in the 2018/2019 Caf Confederation Cup then scored 11 goals to help the side win the Normalization Special Cup Tier-One competition in June. That feat handed Kotoko a place in the 2019/20 Caf Champions League.
Fatawu Safiu will be playing alongside compatriot Dennis Antwi at Trelleborgs.
