Hearts of Oak fell to their second consecutive defeat, 1-0, away to Karela United in the Normalization Special Cup on Sunday.
The hosts progressively dominated the game and scored in the first half to carry the day at the Crosby Awuah Memorial (CAM) Park in Aiyinase.
Striker Solomon Sarfo Taylor netted the Premier B match-day 3 fixture’s only goal just three minutes to the end of the first half when he connected well to a Patrick Yeboah free-kick from the left with a fine header past goalkeeper Richmond Ayi. Both sides shuffled their pack in the second half but no further goal was produced though the hosts mostly came closer to scoring.
Karela, after the victory, top the Premier B log with 7 points from three games. Hearts on the other hand occupy sixth position with three points.
Meanwhile their arch-rivals Asante Kotoko returned to winning ways with a 3-0 thrashing of Techiman Eleven Wonders. The Porcupine Warriors, after losing to Medeama last Thursday, travelled to the Nkoranza Children’s Park needing a win at all cost to boost their chances of staying in competition for one of the top two slots in the Premier A category. And they did just that courtesy a first-half brace from Fatawu Safiu and Evans Owusu’s strike in the second half.
The 3-0 victory moves Kotoko to the top of the log with six points following the 0-0 stalemate between Aduana Stars and AshantiGold in Dormaa.
Other teams like Liberty, Bechem and Dreams FC also recorded home wins while WAFA also held Sharks to a goalless draw in Elmina.
