Asante Kotoko and Al Hilal played to a 1-1 draw in their 2018/19 Caf Confederation Cup clash at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday evening.
The result sees the Blue Wave in second place in Group C with eight points, while the Porcupine Warriors are just behind them with seven. The pool is topped by Nkana FC, who crushed Zesco United earlier in the day, with nine points.
Hilal looked the more creative and aggressive team through the first half, using a more direct style of play to put their hosts under pressure.
Kotoko had a couple of half chances, but they found themselves behind just after the half hour mark when Waleed Hamid got the better of goalkeeper Felix Annan, making it 1-0 in favour of the visitors.
The Ghanaians also suffered an injury blow when they were forced to withdraw Martin Antwi and replace him with Obed Owusu Ampong a few minutes before the break.
The second half saw the Porcupine Warriors looking to find a way back into the game, but they found Al Hilal very tough to break down.
However, the hosts’ perseverance was rewarded in the 86th minute when striker Yacouba Songne found the back of the net to secure a 1-1 draw.
The teams will wrap up the group stage next weekend, with Kotoko away to already-eliminated Zesco United, while Hilal will host Nkana.
