Ghana will, for the successive time, battle with Burkina Faso for a ticket from the West Africa Football Union (Wafu) Zone B to the 2020 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) to be hosted by Ethiopia.
Burkina Faso denied Ghana qualification to the last edition of the CHAN tournament, Morocco 2018. The local Stallions stunned the Black Stars ‘B’ 2-1 in Kumasi after being held to a 2-2 first-leg draw at home to qualify for the competition.
Both countries will join the qualifying campaign in the second round, according to a draw held on Wednesday, 30 January 2019 at the Caf Headquarters in Cairo, Egypt on the sidelines of the Organizing Committee of the competition. The home-based Black Stars will play home first before travelling to Ouagadougou for the return leg.
Close border neighbours Benin and Togo will start the Wafu Zone B qualifiers with the only tie in Round 1. The aggregate winner then advances to face Nigeria in one of the three Round 2 ties for a ticket to the 2020 CHAN.
Also from the Zone B draw is a deciding tie between Niger and Cote d’Ivoire.
Overall, forty-seven (47) teams will be engaged in the battle for 15 places to join host Ethiopia for the final tournament of the sixth edition of the tournament designed exclusively for footballers playing in their domestic leagues.
Caf said it will announce fixture dates for the 2020 CHAN qualifiers at a later date.
