Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah says President Akuffo-Addo will reward the Black Maidens greatly if they win the ongoing Fifa U-17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay.
Coach Evans Adotey’s girls began their sixth World Cup campaign with a swashbuckling performance, beating tournament hosts Uruguay 5-0 Tuesday night. Captain Mukarama Abdulai bagged a hat-trick with the other goals coming off the boots of Fuseina Mumuni and Millot Pokuaa.
“I don’t believe in players all the time fighting for bonuses. I believe in players always demonstrating their sense of patriotism and nationalism for the nation to reward,” Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah told starrsportsgh.com on the sidelines of the launch of the Youth in Sports program in Winneba Wednesday.
He continued: “You do well and the Nation will reward you, for all you know that reward will be far greater than the bonuses. So let them win the Cup and President Akuffo-Addo will reward them accordingly.”
“These are talents of equal measure so I can’t say Ghana can’t win the tournament. How they managed to beat the host nation clearly the confidence, vim, everything shows they can win the tournament. This team has got everything it takes to win the tournament,” Asiamah added.
Ghana will next take on Finland in their second game in Group A Friday night.
