MLS side Columbus Crew SC picked up their contract option on Ghana defender Lalas Abubakar and signed him to a new deal on Monday.
The 23-year-old centre-back, who was selected fifth overall in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft, will thus be back for a third season with the Crew for the 2019 campaign on a new deal.
Abubakar’s initial two-year contract was due in December.
He joined the Crew from Dayton Flyers in 2016.
Lalas Abubakar made 24 appearances for Columbus Crew in the recently ended 2018 MLS campaign. He bagged one assist and picked up three yellow cards.
Meanwhile, Ghanaian trio Harrison Afful, Jonathan Mensah and former Right to Dream Academy midfielder Edward Opoku remain on the roster of the Crew as of now.
