Ghana’s Black Starlets have missed out on a ticket to next year’s U-17 Afcon after losing to Nigeria in the final of the Wafu Zone B qualifying tournament.
In the winner takes all rivalry encounter in Niamey Saturday night, both sides played out a 1-1 draw within regulation time.
The Black Starlets struck first in the 54th minute through Taufiq Shaibu before Nigeria pulled level not long after courtesy Akinwunmi Amoo.
Nigeria went ahead to win 3-1 as the game went straight into penalty shootouts, handing themselves the opportunity to chase their third Afcon title at the U-17 level as Wafu B Champions
The Golden Eaglets will represent the Zone at the 2019 Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Tanzania. A semi-final berth at that competition also gains them one of Africa’s slots to the World Cup in Poland.
