The joint Fifa/Caf mission responsible for the setting up of a Normalization Committee for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has begun work after arriving in the country Tuesday evening.
Representing Caf is acting first vice-president and leader of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick who reportedly is head of the three-man team.
On behalf of Fifa are Mr. Luca Nicola, the Manager of Member Association and Mr. Veron Mosengo-Omba, the Director of Member Associations and Development for Africa and the Caribbean.
Starrsportsgh.com checks reveal that the Fifa/Caf mission in consultation with the Government of Ghana began vetting proposed candidates for the Committee on Wednesday at an unnamed hotel in Accra contrary to the earlier announced premises of the Sports Ministry.
Starrsportsgh.com is also privy to information that the focus of the first of their three-day working mission will be integrity tests.
Authorities have been tight-lipped on the identities of the candidates for the Normalization Committee. However, we can confirm that an Olympian and former member of the Black Princesses Management Committee, Alhaji Karim Mahama Saani (aka Starboy) is one of the personalities scheduled to undergo the Fifa/Caf tests. Widely known as Karim Starboy, the football administrator is currently the interim CEO of Real Tamale United.
Widespread local reports have also mentioned the names of Dr. Kofi Amoah and Lucy Quist as some persons earmarked for the eligibility interviews but starrsportsgh.com is yet to independently confirm their inclusion.
The three-man Fifa/Caf delegation will complete work and leave Ghana on Friday. It is expected that a 5 to 7-member Normalization Committee for the GFA will be confirmed after their work.
The Normalization Committee for the GFA is expected to have 5 or 7 members. Its core duties – which according to FIFA – should not exceed end of March 2019 – will be to:
- To run the GFA’s daily affairs and co-operate with the task force once it has been set up by Fifa, Caf and the Government of Ghana;
- To review the GFA Statuses to ensure compliance with the requirements of Fifa and Caf particularly article 15 of the Fifa Statutes;
- Once the GFA Statutes meets the requirements of Fifa and Caf, this Normalization Committee will organize and conduct the elections of the GFA Executive Committee on the basis of the revised GFA Statutes.
