Ghana superstar Sulley Ali Muntari featured for Accra Hearts of Oak as they thrashed Bechem United 3-0 in a friendly Wednesday morning.
The 33-year-old free agent midfielder who has been training with the Phobians for the past fortnight to keep himself in shape while on holidays, was introduced seven minutes into the second half of the match at the Legon Ajax Park.
Hearts were leading 1-0 courtesy a 4th minute strike by in-form Kojo Obeng before Muntari was thrown into the mix by stop-gap coach Seth Hoffman.
Muntari’s introduction for Isaac Mensah seemed to spark the Phobians to life and just on the hour mark, winger Patrick Razak doubled the advantage after forcing a defensive error before gleefully racing towards goal to lob the ball over an on-rushing Bechem goalkeeper Mensah.
As Bechem tried to chase for a comeback by throwing more men forward, Hearts hit them hard with Razak slipping a good cross for Obeng who tapped home to grab his brace. 3-0.
A flurry of substitutions followed but Muntari’s quality stood out the most as the game lost its verve. The former AC Milan midfielder’s passing range was at its peak as he started pinging diagonal balls for the Hearts wingers to chase.
The game ended with a lovely pass from Muntari for Akrofi. He dropped deep to collect the ball before spraying a pass 60-yards up-field for Akrofi who had made the overlap, but the left back’s cross was cut out, however it did not stop the fans from applauding the quality pass from the experienced Uefa Champions League winner.
Sulley Muntari, after featuring for Deportivo La Coruna in a half-season spell earlier this year, is hoping to secure another deal this summer before deciding to call time on his career.
