Ghana’s Black Satellites commenced their qualifiers for the 2019 African Under-20 Cup of Nations with a 0-0 draw away to Algeria on Friday.
Coach Jimmy Cobblah’s side did not take part in the first round of the qualifiers and Friday’s encounter marked the beginning of their journey to Niger next year.
Ghana dominated the tight goalless game at Stade du 5 Juillet in Algiers.
Forwards Umar Basit and Richard Danso saw their goal-bound efforts mostly saved by great goalkeeping by Algeria’s Said Daas.
The Black Satellites will now have to record any form of win in the return leg at home in order to advance to the final round of the qualifiers.
The winner of this Ghana-Algeria comes up against either Gambia or Benin in the final round of the qualifiers.
Ghana will host the Algerians at Cape Coast Stadium next weekend.
