Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak bounced back to winning ways while leaders AshantiGold tasted their first defeat on matchday six of the 2017/18 Ghana Premier League Wednesday.
Kotoko had to wait seven minutes from time to beat 10-man Ebusua Dwarfs 2-1 at the Baba Yara Stadium after Solomon Okudzeto cancelled out their first half lead by Obed Owusu. Frederick Boateng scored the winner scored the winner on his league debut for the Porcupine Warriors.
Hearts shrugged off their 3-0 loss at Berekum last Sunday to beat Wa All Stars 3-1 on their return to Cape Coast on Sunday. Selasi Bakai scored first before Joseph Esso gave his side a two-goal lead via a penalty. The Northern Blues had Zakaria getting sent off but reduced the deficit also from the spot through Kingsley Osei. But the Phobians sealed victory with another goal from substitute Cosmos Dauda who broke his 20-game duck. His last time was in May.
The game at Dansoman looked to be heading to a goalless draw before Liberty Professionals handed AshantiGold a sucker punch in the 90th minute through a well-worked counter-attack finished off by Elvis Kyei Baah.
Dreams FC’s Zuberu Sharani had cut short Hafiz Konkoni’s lead for Bechem United two minutes after going down before the halftime break. But Konkoni responded with his brace under five minutes of second half to ensure Bechem carried the day with a 2-1 victory at the Fosu Gyeabour Park.
WAFA SC’s home invincibility was finally halted by Medeama SC who snatched an impressive 2-1 victory at the Red Bull Arena in Sokagope. Charles Boateng scored the opener for the hosts before Justice Blay pegged back. Kwasi Donsu then grabbed the winner with an audacious effort in the second half, ending WAFA’s unbeaten home streak at 46.
Reigning champions Aduana Stars pummeled new comers Eleven Wonders 4-1 at the Nana Agyeman Badu I Park courtesy goals from Sam Adams, Nathaniel Asamoah, Hafiz Adams and Gideon Obeng Kyeremeh while Cisse Seidu recorded the consolation for the visitors.
A Tanko Mohammed solitary strike was all Elmina Sharks needed to snatch full points from Inter Allies at the Nduom tadium. The goal game in the 27th minute.
One more matchday six fixture between Karela United and Berekum Chelsea is scheduled for the Baba Yara Stadium on Thursday.
