A first batch of 30 team Ghana athletes left Accra Monday afternoon for an early camping spell in Australia, venue for next month’s Commonwealth Games 2018.
Team Ghana, which will be represented at the games by 72 athletes from 12 disciplines overall, has been holding localized camping for various disciplines in recent weeks.
Five disciplines – Athletics, Cycling, Para, Boxing, Badminton formed the first batched that left the Kotoka International Airport Monday afternoon. They will be followed by the Hockey team later in the evening.
Another batch of five disciplines is also expected to depart Accra Thursday while the national Swimming team will be the last to leave the country later in the month.
At the games scheduled to star April 4, the 72 athletes will be backed by a 49-member technical team comprising 22 coaches for all 12 disciplines, four medical team members, four representatives each from the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) as well as the heads of the 12 disciplines representing Ghana.
