Ghana’s Aduana Stars recorded a 1-0 first leg win at home against ES Setif in the Caf Champions League on Wednesday.
The Algerians approached the game with defensive tactics and relied on counter attacks in search of an away goal which eluded them.
It was goalless in the first half which saw Aduana squandering a lot of chances at the Nana Agyeman Badu I Park in Dormaa.
Second half substitute Sam Adams scored the only goal of the game through a penalty in the 72nd minute after winger Zakaria Mumuni was brought down in the box.
Coach Yusif Abubakar brought in experienced player Yahaya Mohammed in the later stages of the second half to help strengthen the attack, but the Algerian side were able to hold the Dormaa based club till the end of the game.
Aduana Stars would be heading into the second leg with a one goal advantage and must avoid conceding an away goal to progress to the group stages of the competition.
The second leg is scheduled for Sunday 18 March in Setif.
