It turned four straight defeats in the United States for ‘experienced’ Ghanaian super middleweight boxer Thomas Awimbono as he got knocked out in the very first round of his undercard fight with Jesse Hart Sunday dawn.
The American’s goal was to become the first fighter to stop the 37-year-old Ghanaian and he succeeded with his murderous punching power by scoring two knockdowns to win the bout within one minute and 28 seconds.
Hart, 28, first caught Awimbono with a right uppercut that dropped the fighter from Ghana just 1:05 into their scheduled 10-round super middleweight match in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Awimbono got up, but Hart hit him with another right hand that dropped him to his knees and caused referee Lee Rogers to wave an end to their brief bout.
Awimbono and Hart fought on the undercard of Gilberto Ramirez’s optional title defense against Ghana’s Habib Ahmed at American Bank Center. Habib also lost to the hard-hitting Ramirez by a sixth-round TKO.
