The Ghana FA Club Licensing Board (CLB) has told GHOne TV that the Swedru Park, in its current state, does not meet Premier League standards.
This comes barely a day after Accra Hearts of Oak declared settling on the Park as their temporary home due to the closure of the Accra Sports Stadium for renovation works.
But in an interview with GHOne Sports on the sidelines of Wednesday’s GFA Ordinary Congress, CLB boss Emmanuel Newton Dasoberi revealed that his outfit is yet to receive an official letter from the Phobians.
Dasoberi explained that the Swedru Park has only been passed for Division One football:
“The Swedru Stadium was inspected for two teams – Proud United and Swedru United (formerly Fijai Real United). Now, we did not go there because of Accra Hearts of Oak,” he said.
Dasoberi went on: “The unfortunate thing is that the eye I will take into looking into a facility for a Division One League is not the eye I will be using for a Premier League team. The standards are different.
“…For the Swedru Park, we have not officially received a letter from Hearts of Oak. With all due respect to the club, they have spoken to me behind the scene to ask for my technical advice which I have given to them. Maybe it’s based on that conversation, they will be able to come back and tell us what they want to do and the way forward.”
Dasoberi further added that Hearts of Oak can only be permitted to use the facility once they pass through the formalities for the approval of a venue per the club licensing regulations.
“ I can say on authority that [Hearts cannot use Swedru Park now] because we have not received any notice that ‘we are playing at Swedru’ [and] we have not conducted an inspection. You need to inform us for us to have it documented officially…
With the 2017/18 GPL set to kick off March 3, Hearts of Oak will need to hasten things to get their Swedru choice approved. The club will need to upgrade some portions of the Park in order to host their first home game on match day two against AshantiGold.
