The Ligue de Football Professionel has confirmed it will investigate claims Nice striker Mario Balotelli was racially abused.
The Italian international first put his finger to his lips to shush the Dijon crowd during Saturday’s match, then complained to referee Nicolas Rainville.
The official then showed Super Mario a yellow card, drawing condemnation from across the football world.
Todaym the LFP has announced that Balotelli’s complaint will be investigated at their meeting on Thursday.
The referee’s report and the delegate’s report will be studied, but there were no other officials in the stadium so any chanting may not have been detected.
“The French league is one of the most diverse in Europe and so one would expect referees to understand and act seriously after players complain about racism,” Football Against Racism in Europe Executive Director Piara Powar told the BBC.
“Mario Balotelli should be be given added protection by referees and stadium officials, not a yellow card when he brings it to the attention of a referee.”
