Ghana have been drawn to face medal favourites Malaysia in Group D of the badminton mixed team event for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games, Gold Coast 2018.
On Tuesday, a total of 16 nations were drawn in four groups where each nation will play the other three countries in each group in the first two days of the competition at the Carrara Sports and Leisure Centre.
Ghana will face other formidable opponents like Canada and African rivals Seychelles for a passage into the knockout stage of the badminton event.
Malaysia head into the competition as the nation to beat, having won the past three consecutive gold medals in the team event,
The 2018 Commonwealth Games will be held in Gold Coast, Australia from April 4 to 15.
The GC2018 Badminton mixed team draw:
Group A: India, Scotland, Pakistan, Sri Lanka
Group B: Singapore, Mauritius, Zambia, Jamaica
Group C: England. Australia, South Africa, Uganda
Group D: Malaysia, Canada, Seychelles, Ghana
Nations were seeded based on their world rankings.
The team event will have men’s and women’s singles and three doubles — men’s, women’s and mixed in each tie.
The top two teams will move to the quarterfinals. The draw for the knockout stage will be completed immediately after the last match of the group stage.
The mixed team event will be held over the first five days, starting on April 5 with medals decided on April 9. Then six days of singles and doubles action will unfold with medals decided on April 14 and April 15.
