The Ghana FA has announced the appointment of Jimmy Cobblah as new head coach of the male U-20 national team, the Black Satellites.
Cobblah comes as a surprise choice for the job which had former national team captain CK Akonnor as top favourite. However, starrsportsgh.com picks up that the former Wolfsburg recent engagement with AshantiGold ruled him out of reckoning for the Satellites job.
In what appears to be a move to promote continuity, the Ghana FA has settled on Nuru Ahmed as assistant coach for the Satellites. He played similar role at the Under-17 level under coach Paa Kwesi Fabin and could help his new boss Cobblah identify some of the talents to be promoted from the India U-17 World Cup team.
Jimmy Cobblah previously worked as head coach for Ghana Premier League sides Wa All Stars and Inter Allies. He also worked with Togo’s Maranatha FC.
The new Black Satellites technical team could have their first assignment as early as the next 60 days when the qualification process to the 2019 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations kicks off.
