Black Maidens captain Mukarama Abdulai ran amok in Bakau as she led Ghana to a resounding 5-1 win over Gambia in their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifying match on Saturday.
The Northern Ladies striker opened the scoring in the second minute before doubling the lead in the 12th.
Mukarama returned in the 26th minute, scoring twice in two minutes to hand Ghana a four-goal lead by the half-hour mark.
But Fatoumatta Sowe pulled one back for the hosts three minutes to the interval.
The Black Maidens continued to dictate play after the break but the Gambian defence stood resolute minutes on end.
However, Mukarama the star of the show had the final say, netting her fifth in the 86th minute to complete the rout.
Ghana will host Gambia in the return leg in a fortnight at the Cape Coast Stadium.
The winner of this tie will face Djibouti in the second and last stage of the Caf qualifiers to the 2018 Fifa U-17 Women’s World Cup to be staged in Uruguay from 13 November to 1 December 2018.
