Until recently, the Sports Ministry used to cough out as much as $8,000 (approximately GH¢36,080) per month as accommodation charges for Black Stars coaches, Isaac Asiamah has revealed.
The Minister for Spots made this known during his address at the Stakeholders Consultative Forum on the establishment of the National Sports Fund held in Accra today.
The Sports Ministry however put an end to this high spending last month after they acquired a descent facility through the Ministry of Works and Housing for current Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah.
Speaking further on the sidelines of the event, Hon. Asiamah told starrsportsgh.com:
“At the time I took over office, we were spending $8,000 a month on accommodation for our Black Stars coach [Avram Grant].
“He was living in a hotel as you know. You can multiply that amount by the number of years he was Ghana coach.
“But I said no, we have to secure an official residence so that’s how we moved for the place we got for Kwasi Appiah.
Coach Avram Grant was Ghana coach for 27 months but often spent his time outside the country on scouting missions. At the time of filing this report, Starrsportsgh.com was yet to confirm the actual spend on housing the former Chelsea gaffer.
