Defenders Harrison Afful and Jonathan Mensah have been ruled out of Ghana’s penultimate game in Group E of the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifying against Uganda on Saturday.
The two players, who feature for Columbus Crew in the MLS, picked up injuries during last Saturday’s 2-0 win over DC United at home.
Afful, suffered a foot strain and swellings and cannot recover in time for the task ahead whiles Mensah had a swollen ankle after twisting it in the win last week.
The severity of the injuries was confirmed after an X-ray on Monday in Ohio and as a result cannot join their international teammates for the Kampala encounter.
With captain Asamoah Gyan and Thomas Agyepong already out also with injuries, coach Kwasi Appiah now has to work with 22 players for the game against Uganda and as well the international friendly away to Saudi Arabia in Riyadh on October 10.
The Black Stars trained at midday (GMT) with 16 players including troubled Sweden-based debutant Kingsley Sarfo. Two more players arrived at the team’s hotel while the squad were training.
Other players like Raphael Dwamena, Patrick Twumasi and Nicholas Opoku are also expected to join camp latest Wednesday morning.
The Black Stars are expected to leave Nairobi on Thursday. They will hold a mandatory training session at the match venue in Kampala on Friday.
