Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah has inaugurated the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the 2018 Women’s African Cup of Nations to be hosted by Ghana.
Freda Prempeh, a parliamentary representing the Tano North Constituency, was named Chairperson of the eleven-member committee at the ceremony held at the Conference room of the Ministry for Youth and Sports Thursday morning.
A former Ghana Football Association Vice-President, Fred Crentsil, will assist her as Vice Chair.
The newly appointed Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority, Kwadwo Baah Agyemang as well as the Chairperson of the Women’s League Board, Leanier Addy are members of the LOC for the 13th edition of the Women’s Afcon.
Speaking to Starrsportsgh.com reporter Betty Yawson, the Chairperson of the LOC promised to work hard to ensure a successful tournament come next year.
“We are going to work hard and bring the hosting to fruition. I can assure the citizenry we involve all those who matter. In the interim, we will re-exam the stadia, sponsorship, security, transportation and accommodation,” Hon. Prempeh said.
She added that the 2018 Women’s Afcon is tentatively being considered to be hosted in the Greater Accra and Central regions of Ghana.
“With the stadia, we will look at the Accra and Cape Coast Stadium for now since the proposed Legon stadium has not been completed.”
The 2018 Women’s Afcon is slated for 17 November to 1 December 2018.
