WAFA SC returned to the summit of the ongoing Ghana Premier League thanks to a 2-0 win over Asante Kotoko in an outstanding fixture at their Sogakope home on Wednesday.
Despite their dominance from start, the Academy boys had to keep knocking on the door till the second half to record both goals.
Prince Ampem netted the opener in the 57th minute from scrappy play.
The goal followed captain Gideon Waja’s free-kick had come off the post. Ampem initially hit the ball on a rebound which was blocked by Felix Annan but it fell at the feet of the youngster again – his follow-up effort this time bounced off the Kotoko goalkeeper and into the net.
In the 67th minute, WAFA broke away on a counter with Daniel Lomotey racing with the ball, took on Kotoko defender before slotting it past goalkeeper Felix Annan.
WAFA, now on 46 points, have now opened a two-point lead over Aduana Stars.
They travel to face Tema Youth in a matchday 25 fixture on Sunday.
