Ghana led twice as Burkina Faso rallied to earn a 2-2 draw in the first leg of their 2018 CHAN eliminator on Saturday.
The Black Stars ‘B’ led 1-0 at the halfway stage courtesy a penalty strike by Sadick Adams in the 17th minute. Senegalese referee Issa SY did not hesitate in pointing to the spot when he found defender Narcisse Bambara handling the ball in his own 18-yard. And the Kotoko striker put his foot right by hitting the back of the net.
Ghana had dominated the Local Stallions in the first half but the story was different after the break. Burkina Faso gave their visitors a good run in search for the equalizer and deservedly got it through Sylla Mohammed 13 minutes on.
The Black Stars ‘B’ came closest to scoring in the 64th minute but Sadick Adams failed to make his second from a good chance as he fired wide.
Ghana’s continued surge saw midfielder Gideon Waja restored the lead with a fine finish after breezing past his markers the following minute.
Ghana looked to be cruising to an away victory until the 85th minute when Burkina substitute Iliase Sawadogo made good use of a defensive blunder to level the score for the second time in the game.
The first leg ended 2-2 at the Stade du 4 Aout in Ouagadougou.
Ghana hosts the reverse encounter at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on August 19. The game will determine the winner of the available ticket to the CHAN tournament in Kenya next year.
