AshantiGold trainer C.K. Akonnor has described his side’s victory against Accra Hearts of Oak as “an important step forward” in the club’s fight to avoid relegation.
Daniel Gozar’s first-half strike handed the Miners a 4th straight win in the league. The 2015 champions are yet to taste a defeat since the start of the second round of the league. Their impressive run has moved them from second-bottom on the table to 13th, 4 points out of the relegation places.
Akonnor, who masterminded the club’s recent run after quitting Dreams FC half way into the season, believes the result is crucial in their match towards survival.
“I’m very very happy with the result. It was a wonderful performance from the team; another step forward. It was a good game,” he said after the game.
The former Hearts of Oak trainer also reserved special praise for his players.
“For them to have performed the way they did here today, it was fantastic. I’m so proud of them.”
AshantiGold has won every single game in the month of June and will next host table toppers WAFA.
