Ghana’s David Accam put on a show by bagging a hat-trick for Chicago Fire before joining the national team camp on Sunday.
The Fire club beat Orlando City 4-0 in front of 20,000 fans at the Toyota Park with Accam involved in all goals.
He scored three of the goals and also provided an assist for Nemanja Nikolic to score his 14th goal in the MLS.
In the third minute, Accam registered his first with a backheel before latching onto a ball over the top from Bastian Schweinsteiger and rounding the goalkeeper for his brace on 8 minutes.
Accam turned the provider in the 52nd minute by placing a pass perfectly between two defenders for Nemanja Nikolic to make it 3-0.
Later in the game, the 26-year-old drew and converted a penalty for the fourth – his first ever hat-trick in three seasons for Chicago Fire.
“He has more support I think. And then on his side I think he’s committed, he’s cleaner on the ball, when he has opportunities he has more hunger to finish and today was a perfect example of that.
“I think he understands very well how to play with the team that we have now and with the teammates he’s surrounded with. We just have to work to give David opportunities and that he’s always fit for the game and then we expect that performances like this will come even more,” Fire head coach Veljko Paunovic said of the Ghanaian after the match.
David Accam has so far scored 10 times and made 6 assists in the ongoing MLS season.
He has joined the Black Stars camp in Houston for their upcoming international friendlies against Mexico and the United States this week.
