Hearts of Oak were biggest gainers in the race at the top of the Ghana Premier League table as the top two teams dropped valuable points on matchday 19.
With all top three teams, on the road on Sunday, the Phobians managed to close the gap with the leaders after beating Elmina Sharks 2-0 at their own backyard. Hearts wrapped up the victory within the opening 20 minutes with Thomas Abbey and Kwame Kizito scoring in the 13th and 17th respectively.
Leaders WAFA could only manage a point from their trip up North against Bolga All Stars in a goalless stalemate while Aduana Stars were undone by a Theophilus Ogoe penalty strike away to Tema Youth. WAFA keep thus keep their top spot with 37 points, while Hearts move just a point behind second-placed Aduana who have 34 from 19 games.
AshantiGold continued their resurgence with a 3-0 thumping of Inter Allies at the Len Clay Stadium on Sunday. Hans Kwoffie scored twice before new boy Daniel Gozah scored the final goal which ensured the Miners moved just above the relegation zone. AshGold are now 13th on 22 points.
Accra Great Olympics latest run of poor results continued with Liberty Professionals travelling to beat them 1-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium. Michael Ampadu grab the only goal of the game in the first half.
Berekum Chelsea failed to take advantage of a late penalty as they drew 1-1 with Ebusua Dwarfs at the Golden City Park. The visitors shot into the lead through leading scorer Nicholas Gyan who moved his season tally to 10 goals. Stephen Sarfo restored parity for the Blues after a strong fightback. Sarfo found the back of the net again after pouncing on a rebound off Amankona’s shot but the goal was ruled offside. Cecil Fleischer later handed the hosts a penalty but goalkeeper Michael Abu pulled a great save to ensure Dwarfs head back to Cape Coast unbeaten.
Amed Toure’s opener for Bechem United got pegged back by Latif Salifu as Medeama SC ran away with a point from the Fosu Gyeabour Park on Sunday.
Asante Kotoko ended their winless home run with a 2-1 victory over Wa All Stars on Saturday and moved to fourth place with 29 points.
