A last-gasp Hector Moreno goal saw Mexico complete a fightback to draw 2-2 with Portugal in their Group A opener at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup on Sunday.
The European champions took the lead through Ricardo Quaresma who fed on a Cristiano Ronaldo pass on 34 minutes.
Portugal’s lead lasted for just eight minutes. From a Carlos Vela cross, Javier Hernandez planted a close-range diving header in on 42 minutes. The clever finish maintained the striker’s brilliant form in front of goal for El Tri – 48 goals in 93 games.
Southampton full-back Cedric Soares thought he had won it for Portugal when he scored on 86 minutes, only for Moreno to earn a point for El Tri late on at the Kazan Arena.
Hosts Russia won the other opening Group A game – 2-0 over New Zealand on Saturday.
