Coach of the Ghana under-17s, Paa Kwasi Fabin says his side’s main target at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon is securing a ticket to the Fifa World Cup.
The cadet competition finally kicks off on May 14 through to the 28th with a new host after the rights were taken from Madagascar over issues of inadequate preparations.
The Black Starlets are housed in Group A with hosts Gabon, Cameroon and Guinea. According to coach Fabin, the team aims to achieve its immediate World Cup target by winning the first two group games.
“My focus is first to qualify the team to the World Cup – that is to qualify for the semifinals,” he said.
“We intend to make sure we win the first two games to achieve this. From that on, we will see what happens,” Fabin added.
The Black Starlets face the ‘Bebes Lions’ of Cameroon on the opening day before completing the group phase against Gabon and Guinea on May 17 and 20 respectively.
