West Ham’s Soufiane Feghouli will not feature for Algeria at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations after being left out of the final 23-man squad by new coach George Leekens.
The influential midfielder was not selected by the Belgian tactician alongside Carl Medjani and Standard Liege’s Ishak Belfodil.
Algeria’s squad is made of three goalkeepers, 9 defenders, 6 midfielders and five forwards including the dangerous trident of Hilal Soudani along Leicester City’s Islam Slimani and Riyad Mahrez.
The Desert Foxes list also has three locally-based plays while two others – Mokhtar Belkhiter and Hicham Belkaroui feature for Club African and Esperance in neighbouring Tunisia.
Algeria is drawn in Group B of the 2017 Cup of Nations alongside Tunisia, Senegal and Zimbabwe. Leekens side open its campaign against the latter on January 15.
